Final Product: What You Will Create

    Preface:

The time listed is for stitching time of the stockings. Drying time is not included as it will vary greatly depending on the humidity in your area. It is suggested that you allow the stockings to dry for 24 hours.

Bringing the bobbin thread to the top of the work at each color change and the trimming of the tie off stitch tails at the end of each section will prevent different color thread tails from being stitched down by subsequent stitches which would show through the FSL after it has dried. Read the instructions below to see how this is accomplished.

    Step 1:

Tautly hoop two layers of fibrous water-soluble stabilizer in your embroidery hoop.

    Step 2:

Have matching thread colors in the bobbin and on the top of your machine, for the first color use white. Every time you change colors in the design bring the bobbin thread to the top of the machine to prevent tie-on stitches from forming loops and threads of the back of the work. For the 1st color-stop (CS) open the design and then advance one stitch using the icon on your machine where you would move forward or backwards in the design. This will move the machine to where it will start stitching. While holding onto the top thread, press the needle up button twice. This will bring the bobbin thread to the top of the work. You may need tweezers to grab the bobbin thread and pull it out to the length of the top thread.

    Step 3:

While holding onto to the threads run a few stitches of the design. Stop the machine and trim the tails of the threads. Complete the stitching of the 1st color. Then remove the hoop from the machine and trim the tails from the tie off stitches. Do not cut off the knot, just the thread tails.

    Step 4:

Change the bobbin thread to match the color of the 2nd color change. Note: while I always want 60wt thread in your bobbin, the second color of these designs only sews the mesh fill off the stockings so regular embroidery thread was used to wind these bobbins.

    Step 5:

Bring the bobbin thread to the top of the work and stitch CS 2, trim the tails on the back of the work when you take the hoop off the change the bobbin thread back to white thread for the last CS.

    Step 6:

Stitch CS 3 using the same technique to bring the bobbin thread to the top of the work, then stitch the rest of the design. Trim the final stitching tails from the back of the work.

    Step 7:

Cut the stabilizer away about ¼” from the design.

    Step 8:
Hold the stocking under hot running water for just a minute to remove the excess stabilizer.

    Step 9:
Place the stocking on a smooth cotton towel to dry. Do not pick up or move the stocking until it is totally dry.

    Step 10:
Cut 10” lengths of stretchy gift wrap cord or ribbon and feed through the loop of each stocking to hang them from your Christmas tree. Congratulations your FSL Christmas Stocking are complete!
