Final Product: What You Will Create

    Preface:
The tiny prints of the David Angie printed vinyl are a great size for making these small projects. In some cases both solid vinyl and mirror glitter vinyl were used to mix with the prints. Be aware that the David Angie solid color vinyl is a different type of vinyl called a PU vinyl, I did not care for this PU vinyl. The solid and mirror glitter vinyl was purchased from Mikri World LLC and other sources.

    Step 1:

The miniature geometric and fruit prints are sized perfectly for these small lip balm holders. These and other types of prints are available from Amazon from this same supplier.

    Step 2:

For the tabbed version cut two 6” x 2 ½” rectangles and one 2 ½” x 2 ¾” rectangle of vinyl. Tautly hoop 2.5-ounce cut-away stabilizer in your embroidery hoop.

    Step 3:
There are only two color-stops in this design. Use the same color thread that coordinates with your vinyl for both. Run the 1st color-stop as a placement line for the vinyl.

    Step 4:
Remove the hoop from the machine, do not unhoop. Spray adhesive on a 6” x 2 ½” rectangle of vinyl and align within the placement lines.

    Step 5:
Turn the hoop right side down. Spray adhesive on the remaining 6” x 2 ½” piece of vinyl and align within the placement lines on the back of the hoop.

    Step 6:
Do not use spray adhesive on the remaining piece of vinyl. On the front of the hoop align bottom edge of this 2 ½” x 2 ¾” piece of vinyl, right side up, along the bottom edge of the 6” x 2.5” vinyl and tape the top and bottom edges with cellophane tape.

    Step 7:
Run color-stop 2 to complete the embroidery.

    Step 8:
Remove the project from the hoop. Lay the 1/16” mark of a see-through ruler along the stitched edge of the lip balm holder and trim the sides and bottom edge to a 1/16” seam allowance with a rotary cutter.

    Step 9:
Trim the tab and corners with sharp scissors.

    Step 10:
Fold the tab to the back having the top of the tab meeting the top of the lip balm holder. About 3/8” from the base of the tab push the awl through both layers.

    Step 11:
Push two long shank size 20 Kam Snaps through the two holes. Apply the snaps with the male and female components following the manufacturer’s instructions.

    Step 12:
Insert a lobster clasp and snap the tab closed. Insert a Chapstick® or Burt’s Bees® lip balm to complete the project.

    Step 13:
For the lip balm holder without the tab cut your two vinyl pieces 4 ½” x 2 ½” and the smaller piece 2 ¾” x 2 ½”.

    Step 14:
The pieces are sewn together in the same order as Steps 3 through 7. An eyelet will sew at the top of the holder, shown here in red.

    Step 15:
All 4 sides of this version can be cut to 1/16th outside the sewing lines with just the 4 corners being trimmed by the scissors.

    Step 16:
Push an awl all the way through the eyelet.

    Step 17:
Insert a key ring through the eyelet and a tube of lip balm in the pocket to complete the lip balm holder.

    Step 18:
Have fun mixing and matching the vinyl prints and solids to make each ITH Lip Balm Holder unique.
