  • Preface:
Use your imagination with this project.  Take an existing picture frame you already have on hand that you are not using or one of your not so used frames, take out the glass and get ready for a quick transformation.

    Step 1:

Some of the materials used for the project.

    Step 2:
Cut a piece of fabric larger than your hoop, use stabilizer, select your favorite Kinship Heart Embroidery design and take to your machine.  Use a 10x10" hoop if selecting the 7.90 design or 5x7"" hoop for the 4.9" design.

    Step 3:
    Sew out your favorite design.

    Step 4:
Place your frame over your design and use pins to mark where your design should lay in the frame and flip it over.

    Step 5:
Cut a piece of cardboard that will fit inside the frame where the glass normally sits.  This one is about 1/2" smaller than the frame itself.

    Step 6:
Using clear tape fold over the edges and tape down, just like you are wrapping a package.  Turn over to make sure you are getting the design centered correctly before finishing.

    Step 7:
When you turn it to the right side make sure you are happy with it before going any further in the steps.

    Step 8:
Finish taping the back down.  Duct tape will hold in place very good.  Turn over again to make sure placement is just where you want it.

    Step 9:
Now take the 2nd piece of cardboard and cut to size if needed.  Lay your frame on top of the cardboard and trace around it.  Cut it out.  If you have the back that actually fits in your frame you can try to see if it fits.  Because the fabric is thick it might not.  This is when the cardboard hack will work well.  If it fits you just skip the below steps and you are done with your project.

    Step 10:
Lay your cut out piece of cardboard over the back of the frame.  Trim just a slight amount off each side so that it does not extend beyond your frame back.

    Step 11:
Either use hot glue or staple gun to fasten the back to the frame.  You can also take a piece of cardstock and glue over the cardboard back for a more finished look.

    Step 12:
Use Command picture hanger or any pop top that can be hot glued to the back.

    Step 13:
This is the pop top hot glued to back.  This will easily hang on a push pin in the wall.

    Finished frame.

    Jayne Monsipapa
Jayne Monsipapa has been digitizing for 24 years. It all started after walking into a sewing store in 1993 to buy a couple spools of thread and there was a sewing machine hooked up to a computer! Embroidering the designs were fun at first, but it did not take much to get hooked on digitizing. From 1993 until 1999 she worked on her digitizing skills and found her designs sewed out very good. With her husband’s encouragement Kinship Kreations LLC began in 1999 selling designs online. In those early years she took classes with both Walt Floriani and Lee Caroselli (Balboa Embroidery) who are both very talented and successful digitizers. Jayne joined the EmbroideryDesigns team in 2008.
