An easy to follow tutorial in making an envelope back lumbar pillow cover embroidered with a simplistic design using your embroidery software program to incorporate two embroidery designs into one stitch out. Embroidery design sizes used in this tutorial: Home Sweet Home 5.89" x 3.33" / Vintage Folk Art Border 5.91" x 0.66".
Step 1:
Gather all supplies and review steps before beginning.

Step 2:
Cut from your fabric the following pieces:
(1) 13” X 17” ( Front of pillow cover)
(1) 13” X 12” ( Envelope back) (1) 13” X 14” ( Envelope back)
Step 3:
Bring into your embroidery program per your program's instructions, the designs Vintage Folk Art Border and Home Sweet Home to create one single stitch out design. (Refer to picture) Place one border at top of the HSH design . Duplicate and move to bottom of HSH. Refer to picture for position. Use your software program feature to change background fabric color to match your color fabric. ( fabric color used in this tutorial is black and I wanted the thread color choices to pop as this pillow cover will be used outside on rocking chairs. ) Resize design to approx 7” x 6.5”. Print out paper template of design you created.

Step 4:
Load design into your machine. Find center of your front pillow cover piece 13” x 17” by folding in half. Finger press to crease then fold in half again. Center position your design paper template and mark axis points.

Step 5:
Hoop stabilizer using correct hoop for your created design. Spray temporary adhesive spray onto hooped stabilizer. Center position your front pillow cover panel matching top hoop markings to your marked axis points on your fabric. Finger press to adhere. Smooth out any wrinkles. Attach hoop to machine and confirm center needle placement for design.

Step 6:
Begin embroidering process. Embroidering stitch out complete. Remove hoop. Cut/trim all jump stitches and loose thread ends. Remove stabilizer. Iron press if needed.

Step 7:
CONSTRUCTION OF PILLOWCOVER
Iron a 1” seam on one 13” side of each of the cut envelope back pieces. Fold over again and top stitch.

Step 8:
With right sides together position the envelope flap pieces on top of embroidered front matching sides all sides. Place the larger cut piece first. ( these pieces will overlap) Pin in place.

Step 9:
Stitch all sides using ½” seam allowance. Serge or zig zag raw edges to prevent fraying and for a finished seam. Clip corners. Turn right side out. Push out corners. Iron press. And Viola! You are done! Just insert your lumbar pillow form and enjoy the comfort for your back while you are relaxing.
