'Love Hot Beverage' design on a mug mat. Put your favorite tea or cocoa packet in the handy pocket. Slip the mug mat into your snack bag for the busy, on-the-go days! A 1/4" seam was used on the mug mat. A single needle embroidery machine to embroider the design.
Step 1:
Read the directions before beginning. Gather the materials that are needed for the rug mat. Iron the fabric. Use Terial Magic fabric stabilizer or Magic Sizing spray starch to stiffen the fabric.
Step 2:
Center the 6.5"x6.5" piece of neutral fabric on your cutting mat. Mark the center points on each side of fabric.
Step 3:
Center the design template on the fabric using the axis points and the grid on the cutting mat.
Step 4:
Hoop one piece of light weight cutaway stabilizer. Float the 6.5"x6.5" neutral piece of fabric on the stabilizer. Use a light mist of 505 Temporary Adhesive spray on the stabilizer. Surface must be smooth and wrinkle free.
Step 5:
Load the design onto the machine. Attach the hoop. Embroider the design. Remove the hoop from the machine. Trim the cut away stabilizer from around the design leaving about a 1/2" margin.
Step 6:
Fold the 5"x9" piece of fabric in half. Press along the fold line. Cut one 4.5"x5" piece of fusible fleece.
Step 7:
Open the 5"x9" piece of fabric. Place the 4.5"x5" piece of fusible fleece on one half of the fabric.
Step 8:
Follow the fusible fleece package directions to fuse the fleece to the fabric. Trim any fusible fleece overlapping the fabric if needed.
Step 9:
Place the pocket on the 5"x6.5" piece of contrasting fabric.
Step 10:
Pin the pocket section to one side of the embroidered piece of fabric. Make sure that the design and the pocket opening are turned in the same direction. Sew a 1/4" seam. Reinforce the stitches at the beginning and end of the seam.
Step 11:
Place one (7.5x12") piece of low nap cotton batting on a flat surface covered in newspaper. Lightly spray the batting surface with 505 Temporary Adhesive spray.
Step 12:
Place the embroidered fabric piece on the batting. Fabric surface must be smooth and wrinkle free. Trim any overlapping batting from around the edges if needed. The mug mat should measure approximately 6.5"x11".
Step 13:
Place the 7.5"x12" backing fabric on a flat surface. The wrong side of the fabric is facing you. Center the front fabric piece onto the backing. The backing will have a 1" overlap for the binding. Measure the 1" overlap for all sides. Trim or square the backing fabric if needed.
Step 14:
Lightly mist the batting with 505 Temporary Adhesive spray. Smooth the front of the mug mat onto the backing fabric.
Step 15:
Fold the border in half. Press along the fold line.
Step 16:
Fold the binding over again. Pin the binding in place. Topstitch around the sides to finish the binding.
Step 17:
Congrats! You have completed a 'Love Hot Beverage' mug mat. Great job!
