Final Product: What You Will Create

    Step 1:
Gather your materials and have a read through the instructions before beginning. Have a copy of the color sequence on hand to refer to

    Step 2:
Place your coat hanger on a piece of paper and trace across the top 2 angled lines and around the sides to form the shape for the top section of the bag. Continue the sides down for 28cm, or your desired length for the bag. Draw a line across the bottom to join the 2 sides and indicate the bottom of the bag. From the top centre point, mark down 12cm and draw a line across, this indicates the cut line for the top front section of the bag. Add ¼” seam allowance all the way around and cut out the paper pattern.

    Step 3:
Use the entire pattern to cut 1 piece of printed fabric and 1 piece of plain fabric, these are the back pieces for the bag. Then cut the pattern along the line which indicates the top front section of the bag, so your pattern becomes 2 pieces. Place the bottom section piece on the patterned fabric and add ¼” seam allowance to the top long edge and cut out. Place the top triangular shape on the patterned fabric and add ¼” seam allowance to the bottom straight edge and cut out. Repeat this for the plain fabric.

    Step 4:
On the plain fabric for the bottom section of the bag, mark the centre to indicate the centre of the embroidery design. Hoop your stabilizer and fabric, I have used a tack down stitch to hold the fabric in place, and stitch out the design.

    Step 5:
Lay the lining and plain triangular pieces, right sides together and sew along the bottom edge using a ¼” seam. Lay the bottom sections together, right sides facing, and sew the top long edge.

    Step 6:
Now lay the back plain cotton piece down with the sewn front sections face down on this, then place the back patterned piece on top with right side down. Pin together and starting 2” down from the top point, sew around using a ¼” seam and stopping 2” from the top point again to leave an opening to turn through. As you stitch around, ensure the front opening of the bag is lined up to match and back stitch over these sections to secure. Turn through the bag through the top opening.

    Step 7:
Turn in ¼” all around the top opening and stitch closed.
