Final Product: What You Will Create

    Preface:
This frame is a very easy project. It is stitched on a good quality craft felt, cut to size, and then assembled to make a wonderful gift for a Veteran or military member stationed away from home.

    Step 1:
Read through the instructions thoroughly before beginning and assemble all the materials needed to complete the project. Be sure to use a good quality craft felt, not the inexpensive kind; there are too many stitches for that type of felt to hold up well under embroidery.

    Step 2:
Load the design on the machine. Hoop a piece of felt with a layer of poly mesh stabilizer. Load the first thread color on the machine and begin the stitching.

    Step 3:
Continue stitching the design following the color sequence.

    Step 4:
This is a fun design to watch as it stitches and the use of quality felt allows perfect registration.

    Step 5:
After the design has finished stitching, it is time to measure and cut away the excess felt from the inside and outside of the design, so it can be centered in the picture frame.

    Step 6:
First, measure the width and length of the photo.

    Step 7:
Measure the length and width inside the frame. Use a rotary cutter and mat to carefully cut away the felt inside of the frame; be very careful not to cut any of the stitching. Cut along the lengths, then use the sharp point of a dressmaker shears to cut into the corners.

    Step 8:
    8. This photo is slightly larger than the inside measurement of the frame, so it fit nicely behind the opening once it was cut out. If your photo is slightly smaller, then leave some of the center portion of the felt to frame and hold the photo in place.

    Step 9:
Next, measure the width and length of the paper insert of the frame. This will give you the dimensions to cut around the outside of the frame so it will fit nicely behind the glass.

    Step 10:
Measure the length and width of the outer edges of the photo frame. Compare them with the measurements of the paper insert. Determine the difference and divide that difference in half for both the length and width.

    Step 11:
Use that divided measurement to trim off the sides, top, and bottom around the outer edges of the frame. For this frame, 3/16” of felt was left on the left and right sides of the frame, and 1/2” was left on the top and bottom.

    Step 12:
Center the picture behind the embroidered frame and then flip it over and tape or glue the edges in place to keep it centered. Reassemble the frame inserting the glass first, then the embroidered piece, and then the paper and cardboard.

    Step 13:
Use the closures to secure the frame back. The photo frame is complete.

    Step 14:
Congratulations on creating a beautiful gift of loved ones, framed with a patriotic mat for Veterans Day this year.
