Sweater Pot Cover Embroidery Project

Gather the materials and read through the instructions before beginning. Have a copy of the color sequence on hand to refer to. The pot I selected is 4 ¼” high x 3 ½” diameter. It would be best for you to choose a pot which suits the size of your sweater sleeve to ensure the pot is not too big.

Measure up 7 ½” from the end of the sleeve and cut across the sleeve then unpick the seam of the sweater sleeve to open it flat.

Turn over ½” of the sleeve to form a cuff type look across the top, pin in place. Measure across the width of the sleeve and mark halfway then measure down 2 ¾” from the top, this marks the centre of the embroidery design. Wrap it around the pot the check the placement if needed. 

Stitch down the cuff at the top in a few positions to hold it in place. Hoop the stabilizer and position the fabric, ensuring it is centered and pin down, overlay the water soluble stabilizer also. Load the embroidery design, then use a tack down stitch to hold it in place. Stitch out the design.

Unhoop the design and trim away the excess stabilizer. Fold the fabric in half with right sides together and pin the seam together from the bottom of the cuff down, leaving the cuff section open for now. Stitch a ¼” seam. Turn the cover right side out and match the cuff seam, stitch together then turn under so the seam is hidden. 

Turn the cover inside out again and lay flat with the embroidery design side up, measure up 1” from the bottom on each side of the wrap then measure up ½” in the centre, this will form a curved base. Stitch the serge the seam. The curved base will help shape the cover under the pot.

Turn the cover right side out and enjoy your up cycled sweater pot cover.
