Description

A holder created for the "not so average" tea drinker to keep your favorite teabags in a portable and handy wallet.

Materials
  • (1) 8” X 6.5” HEAVY WEIGHT COTTON FABRIC ( OUTER)
  • (3) 8” X 5” COTTON FABRIC (POCKETS)
  • (1) 8” X 6.5” COTTON FABRIC (LINING)
  • EMBROIDERY THREAD
  • SEWING THREAD
  • TEMPORARY ADHESIVE SPRAY
  • TEAR AWAY STABILIZER
  • (1) ¼” ELASTIC CUT 5” LENGTH
  • (1) MEDIUM SIZE BUTTON
  • CHALK OR AIR ERASE FABRIC PEN

    Final Product: What You Will Create

    Preface:
    A teabag wallet constructed using a heavy weight cotton fabric for the outside of the wallet for durablility. Cotton fabric for the lining and pockets for which this tutorial will show you how to create 6 pockets out of your (3) three cut pocket pieces. Along with a button and elastic for closure and a sweet embroidery design on the front to showcase your talent. 


    Step 1:
    Gather all your supplies and review instructions before beginning.

    Step 2:
    Print out paper template of embroidery design “ All I Need Is Tea”.

    Step 3:
    Take your outer fabric and fold in half. Matching up the 6.5” side raw edges.

    Step 4:
    Center your paper design template on top ( fabric fold will be on the left side of wallet) and mark your horizontal and vertical axis points.

    Step 5:
    Cut and hoop tear away stabilizer. Mark horizontal and vertical axis points directly onto your stabilizer.

    Step 6:
    Spray temporary adhesive spray on top of stabilizer. Place and center prepared outer fabric on top matching up axis points.

    Step 7:
    Load design into your machine. Attach hoop. Confirm center needle placement. Refer to the design thread color chart or use your favorite color threads. Begin the embroidering process. Embroidering complete. Remove hoop. Cut and trim all jump stitches and loose thread ends.  Carefully tear away stabilizer from back.

    Step 8:
    CONSTRUCTION OF POCKETS
    Fold your 3 cut pocket pieces (8” x 5”) in half horizontally. Iron press fold. Top stitch fold edge using a scant 1/8” seam allowance for all three pieces.

    Step 9:
    Place one of your pocket pieces 1 ½” down from top edge of your lining. Matching side raw edges. Pin in place and stitch bottom of pocket onto lining using ¼” seam allowance.

    Step 10:
    Place your 2nd pocket piece on top of 1st pocket spacing 1 ¼” down from top stitched folded edge. Pin in place and stitch bottom of pocket onto lining using ¼” seam allowance. Next place your last pocket piece on top of 2nd pocket spacing 1 ¼” down from top stitched folded edge, matching up bottom raw edges. Pin in place and stitch bottom to lining using ¼” seam allowance.

    Step 11:
    Find center by folding in half, fingertip press and sew a straight stitch starting from topstitched edge of the first pocket to bottom . This creates 6 pockets for the teabags.

    Step 12:
    Cut your elastic 2.5" in length. Fold in half.  Center onto outer front of wallet at side raw edge and attach by stitching in place.

    Step 13:
    Lay your outer wallet right side up and place your pocket/lining on top right sides together. Pin in place. Stitch all around outside edges using ¼” seam allowance. Leave a 2” opening at the bottom for turning.

    Step 14:
    Clip corners. Turn right side out. Turn in seams of opening. Iron press. Topstitch all around using scant 1/8” seam allowance. ( this will also close opening) iron press in half. Attach button to back of wallet. Bring elastic loop around to back for placement. Stitch button in place by hand. Be careful as not to stitch through inside pockets.

    Step 15:
