Essential Purse Pouch Embroidery Project

Description

A lined basic zipper pouch tutorial with a decorative embroidery design on the front to place in your purse or bag to hold your daily essential needs.

Materials
  • FAUX SUEDE (ANY COLOR) OUTER PANEL
  • COTTON FABRIC (LINING)
  • 16” POLYESTER ZIPPER(1)
  • EMBROIDERY THREAD
  • SEWING THREAD
  • TEMPORARY ADHESIVE SPRAY
  • CUT AWAY STABILIZER FABRIC AIR ERASE PEN OR CHALK

    Preface:
    You will need for this tutorial a polyester zipper with a minimum length of 16” as the longer length zipper makes it easier to work with using this tutorial method. Two fabric pieces each measuring 9” x 12” for a medium size pouch.( outer panel for front/ back and lining.) Finished size will be approx 8” x 5.5”. There are three sizes should you want to make a set which would make a perfect mother’s day gift. The 1 hour time to make is for one (1) pouch. Time will vary based on your experience and embroidery design used. 


    Step 1:
    Gather all supplies and review instructions before beginning. (picture shows supplies for 3 pouches) 
     
    This tutorial is for a medium size pouch. The additional sizes are as follows:
    Cut 10” x 14” for a large pouch. Finished size 9” x 6.5”
    Cut 7.5” x 10” for a small pouch. Finished size 6” x 4.5”

    Step 2:
    Print out “Always Grateful” embroidery design template. Load design into your machine and per your machines instructions edit to enlarge design to approx 3.5” x 5.2”.

    Step 3:
    Cut and hoop cutaway stabilizer. Mark directly onto stabilizer axis points and a center cross hair.

    Step 4:
    With your outer fabric ( wrong side facing up) bring up bottom edge to match top edge. ( This will be your pouch front) The center of your embroidery design will be 3.5” down from top and 4.5” in from side. Mark axis points.

    Step 5:
    Spray temporary adhesive spray onto hooped stabilizer. Center place your outer fabric matching side and center axis points.

    Step 6:
    Attach hoop to machine. Confirm center needle placement per your machine’s instructions. For this design you will need two thread colors. Use color of choice or refer to design thread color chart. Begin the embroidering process. Embroidery complete. Remove hoop. Cut and trim all jump stitches and loosed thread ends. Cutaway stabilizer approx 1” from stitched design.

    Step 7:
    Lay your front embroidered panel atop your cut lining piece. ( wrong sides together). Match up top/bottom/side edges. Place zipper right side down onto front panel matching up top edges. ( zipper ends should extend out on both sides. Pin in place. Stitch using a scant ¼” seam allowance.

    Step 8:
    Top stitch close to folded edge on front. Using an approx 1/8” seam allowance.

    Step 9:
    Bring up bottom edge to top of zipper.( lining will now be facing up). Pin in place. Stitch using a scant ¼”

    Step 10:
    Unzip  zipper. Top stitch close to folded edge as your did in step #8  using approx 1/8” seam allowance.

    Step 11:
    Close zipper. Leave an opening of 2 -3” for turning. Match up side seams and zipper teeth. Pin in place. Stitch side seams using ½” seam allowance stitching right on through zipper.

    Step 12:
     Trim excess zipper. Repeat for other side. Serge or zig zag seams. Turn right side out. Push out corners.

    Step 13:
    Add your essentials! Viola you are done! These make great gifts as a set. Look for other embroidery designs to embellish additional pouches on the Embroidery Design Site.
