Final Product: What You Will Create

Preface:

A zippered bag made of clear vinyl with nylon trim. Use as a crossbody body purse or a wristlet clutch.

Design dimensions are 4.93"x1.60". A 5"x7" or 6"x6" hoop size will be used for this project. Fabric is heavy duty, clear vinyl and nylon. Tear away stabilizer will be used because the fabric the design is stitched on is very thick and stabile. Stitch count is 10,816. Since the stitch count is over 8,000, two sheets of stabilizer are needed for this project. A floating technique will be used for the hooping method. Needle size is very important for this project. A larger embroidery needle (90/14) is needed to pierce the vinyl and to prevent runs in the nylon. A single needle embroidery machine was used to stitch this project.

Step 1:

Read all the directions before beginning the project. Gather supplies and materials. Put a 90/14 embroidery needle on your machine. Check your bobbin area for debris. Check for an adequate amount of thread on the bobbin. Load the design on the machine. If available, print a design template.

Step 2:

Hoop two sheets of medium weight (1.5 oz.) tear away stabilizer.

Step 3:

Decide where you are placing the design on the bag. Mark the center point on the bag with an erasable fabric pen or marker.

Step 4:

A design template is a life size picture of the actual design. It's a great tool for placement and helps visualize the design when stitched on the item. Embrilliance 'Essentials' embroidery software was used to make the design template.

If available, use the design template to guide placement of the design on the bag. If not, make a template using the design dimensions out of blank paper. So, you would have a rectangle on blank paper measuring 4.93"x1.60".

Step 5:

Turn the bag inside out. Center the section to be stitched on the stabilizer. Make sure the opened end of the bag is facing you. Put masking tape along the sides and ends of the bag. Use Wonder clips or tape to hold the bag out of the stitching field.

Step 6:

I recommend using a slower stitching speed 500-600. You are stitching in a small area, and the slower speed gives you more control while stitching. Stitch the design.

Step 7:

Remove the bag from the hoop. Tear away the stabilizer from the back of the design. Trim threads if needed. Turn the bag right side out.
