Final Product: What You Will Create

Preface:

Get ready for some spooky fun! Spiders, ghosts, black cats, and pumpkins are part of this 10 piece assortment of FSL Halloween Ornaments. Super cute on a little table top Halloween tree.

Step 1:

NOTES: Free-standing lace embroidery designs are stitched on a fibrous water-soluble stabilizer with no fabric base. A high stitch count holds the lace together. The film plastic-like WSS works better as a topping for deep nap fabrics like towels and is NOT recommended for this project. Drying time is not included in the project completion time.

Read the directions before beginning the project. Gather the materials needed for the project.

Step 2:

FSL ornaments may be stitched separately one at a time or as a group. Print the design template and/or color chart as a guide for single ornaments.

Step 3:

Multiple designs may be grouped together to reduce the amount of stabilizer used for this project. An embroidery software program (Embrilliance Essentials) was used to group the designs.

Print the design template and/or color chart for the grouped ornaments if you are stitching multiple designs.

Step 4:

Hoop 2 pieces of Vilene wash-away stabilizer. Make sure the stabilizer is taut and drum-like in the hoop.

Load the embroidery design on your machine. Use polyester 40 wt. thread with a matching bobbin color. Make sure to begin with a full bobbin due to the high stitch count of FSL designs. You don’t want to run out before the design is finished stitching. Use the same color thread for the bobbin if the lace will be viewed from both sides. Check your needle before beginning.

Step 5:

Stitch the designs. The example shows one of the FSL Halloween Ornaments stitched.

Step 6:

This example shows multiple designs stitched together in one hoop.

Step 7:

Remove the stitched ornaments from the hoop. Trim the excess stabilizer to about ¼” from the edge. Trim the long threads if needed on the back of the design. It’s very difficult to clip/remove a stray thread once you remove the water-soluble stabilizer.

Step 8:

Remove the water-soluble stabilizer by following the directions on the package. WSS is usually removed by running hot water on the design. Hold the FSL ornament under the running water just until the WSS is no longer visible around the edges or in holes in the design. Leaving some of the WSS will make the ornaments stiff and hold their shape better.

Lay the ornaments on a piece of parchment paper to dry overnight.

Step 9:

Thread the ribbon through the loop in each ornament. Tie the ends of the ribbon together. Congrats! You have completed a FSL Halloween Ornament!
