These easy sachets make great gifts for Mother’s Day, a bridal party, or for any day that you just want to make someone smile.

Materials

For each sachet:

4” x 4” embroidery hoop

9” x 8” rectangle plus 5” square of pastel quilting cotton

9” x 8” rectangle of poly mesh stabilizer

4 Tablespoons of dried lavender

Sewing machine with a zigzag stitch

Pinking shears

Frixion® heat removable marking pen

A bowel

A 1 tablespoon measuring spoon

A piece of copy paper to make a funnel

See through ruler or quilt square rule

Final Product: What You Will Create

Step 1:

Fold the 9” x 8” fabric in half lengthwise and finger press a crease. Open the fabric and fold in half cross wise and finger press a crease.

Step 2:

Using your see through ruler and the heat removable pen mark a 4” square centered over the creases in your fabric. You can mark a little dot at the center of the square too.

Step 3:

Tautly hoop the stabilizer and the marked fabric in your embroidery hoop centering the marked square in the hoop.

Step 4:

Follow the color chart of your chosen design to embroider it in the center of the square.

Step 5:

Lay the ½” mark of a see through ruler along the lines you drew on the fabric and trim all edges to a ½” seam allowance. You will end up with a 5” square of fabric.

Step 6:

You now have a plain 5” square of fabric and an embroidered 5” square of fabric. Align the two squares wrong sides together.

Step 7:

Select a zigzag stitch on your sewing machine that is not too wide. In the samples, a 3.3m wide zigzag was used with a 3mm spacing.

Step 8:

Align your presser foot over the drawn line about 1 ½” above one corner of the squares. Stitch over the line to the corner. Stopping the machine with the needle to the left side of the line pivot around the corner.

Step 9:

Continue stitching around the square always having the needle down and to the left side of the line when you pivot at the corners. On the final side of the square only stitch 1” into the square leaving a 2” opening between your first stitches and your last.

Step 10:

Press the sachet to remove your marked lines.

Step 11:

Pour your dried lavender into a bowl for easy handling.

Step 12:

Fold a sheet of copy paper in half and roll into a cone. Use a piece of scotch tape to hold the cone shape. You can trim off the end of the cone so that it has about a ¾” hole at the bottom so that the lavender slides through easily. Insert the cone into the opening of the sachet and put 4 TBS of lavender into the sachet.

Step 13:

Return to the sewing machine and stitch the opening closed with the same zigzag stitches.

Step 14:

Trim the seam allowances to ¼” with a pair of pinking shears.

Step 15:

Congratulations your first sachet is complete! Enjoy making the whole set!
