A bright, cheerful runner featuring word art 'Live, Laugh, Love'. This project does have some very basic sewing.
Step 1:
Gather the materials for this project. Measure your placemat. Placemat sizes vary greatly. Be sure to cut the fabric and rickrack lengths based on the size of your placemat.

Step 2:
Cut two strips of coordinating fabric 3" x the width of your placemat.
Fold the edges down 1/2" along the length of the fabric and press.

Step 3:
Cut two pieces of Heat n Bond lite 2 1/2" x width of your placemat.
Follow the directions on the package adhere the Heat n Bond lite to the WRONG side of the fabric strips.

Step 4:
Use the design template to help determine placement on the placemat. Mark the center point and axis on the placemat.

Step 5:
The placemat in this project is made of a heavy weight fabric. Because of the strength and durability of the placemat, a lightweight tear-away stabilizer was used in this project. If your placemat is made of lightweight fabric, a cut-away stabilizer would be a better choice.
Hoop one piece of lightweight, tear-away stabilizer.

Step 6:
Align the center points and axis lines on the stabilizer and bookbag. Press the placemat gently onto the stabilizer making sure there are no bubbles or ripples on the surface. Pin the placemat onto the stabilizer for added stability.

Step 7:
Load the embroidery design onto your machine. Begin stitching the project following the color chart.

Step 8:
Once stitching has completed, remove the placemat from the hoop. Gently tear away the stabilizer. Trim threads if needed on the back of the project.

Step 9:
Place the two fabric strips along the sides of the placemat. Follow the package directions to bond the strips to the placemat.

Step 10:
Place the rickrack along the inner edge of the fabric trim. Pin the rickrack in place. Sew the rickrack onto the placemat.

Step 11:
Fold the edges of the fabric and rickrack trim that overlap in half. Fold the fabric overlap again, and pin in place.

Step 12:
Sew a straight seam over the edges of the fabric trim and rickrack.
