Materials
  • White cotton fabric to fit embroidery hoop (will be cut down to 6” x 6”)
  • 12” x 12” snowflake fabric to coordinate with design
  • 6” x 6” Pellon brand fleece
  • Embroidery thread as stated in the design sequence
  • Sewing thread to coordinate with snowflake fabric
  • Tearaway stabilizer

  • Designs used in this project

Final Product: What You Will Create

    Step 1:
Gather the materials and read through the instructions before beginning. Print out a paper template of the design. Coordinate the embroidery thread colors with the snowflake fabric being used. Press the fabrics well with spray starch.

    Step 2:
Cut out the paper template and center it on the white fabric. Hoop the white fabric with two layers of tearaway stabilizer. Load the design on the machine and align the needle to the center of the paper template. Stitch the design using the chosen thread colors, following the color sequence.

    Step 3:
Remove the design from the hoop and remove the excess stabilizer. Align the template over the design. Using a 6” square ruler, center the ruler on the cross marks of the design/template and draw a 6” square around the ruler.

    Step 4:
Cut the embroidered fabric around the drawn line. Place the 6” square of Pellon fleece behind the embroidery, matching cut edges. Baste the two layers together. Now working with the 12” square of snowflake fabric, first press under ¼” around all edges and then press under 1” around all edges.

    Step 5:
Next will be to miter the corners. Place pins along each end where the corner comes together. Open up the corner and flip the fabric right side up. Bring the pins together and pin.

    Step 6:
Place a pin where the 1” fold is. Stitch from the pin at the top fold to the folded corner. Before trimming and clipping the excess fabric away, fold the corner to the right side to make sure it is formed correctly.

    Step 7:
Trim the seam to ¼” and clip the corner. Finger press the seam open and then flip the corner right side out. Repeat for the remaining three corners.
