Materials
  • Canvas wine tote
  • Embroidery thread as stated in color sequence
  • Cutaway stabilizer
  • Sewing thread to match tote fabric
  • Bottle of wine

  • Designs used in this project

    Preface:
This project is made simple by beginning with a purchased wine tote. A few seams are released to gain access to the fabric for embroidery. After the embroidery is done, the seams are sewn back together.

    Step 1:
Gather the materials and read through the instructions before beginning. Print out a paper template of the design and color sequence.

    Step 2:
Determine which seams need to be released so the fabric will lay flat for embroidery. Use a seam ripper to remove the stitching and then press the fabric well.

    Step 3:
This tote has seams at the front, so the seams were brought together to determine the center front; lightly press in a crease, Determine where the design should go and align the design template to the center front along the crease.

    Step 4:
The seams on this canvas tote are too thick to be able to hoop the fabric. So the stabilizer was hooped, the design loaded on the machine, and then the fabric placed on the hoop and centered under the needle.

    Step 5:
The basting function on the machine was used to secure the fabric to the stabilizer and then the stitching done following the color sequence.

    Step 6:
After the embroidery is finished, un-hoop the fabric, remove the basting stitches, and trim away the stabilizer. Pin together and stitch the seams as they were originally sewn.
