Final Product: What You Will Create

    Preface:
These little sachets and pincushions are so easy to make they present a great opportunity for you to teach your grandchildren how to make a gift for their moms on your embroidery machine.

    Step 1:
    Cut 2 4” x 5” rectangles of fabric. Tautly hoop no show stabilizer in a 4” x 4” hoop.

    Step 2:
Run color stop (CS) 1 as a placement line for your fabric. Use a thread color that matches your fabric.

    Step 3:
Spray a little adhesive on the wrong side of the fabric and position over the placement lines so that the fabric exceeds the placement line by ½” on all sides. Run CS 2 to tack down the fabric. Use a thread color that matches the fabric.

    Step 5:
Position the second rectangle of fabric right side down over the project aligning the fabric over the fabric in the hoop. Do not spray adhesive on this second piece of fabric. Run the last CS in the thread that matches the fabric to sew together the two rectangles which will leave a 2” opening to turn the project right side out.

    Step 6:
Remove the project from the hoop. Trim the fabric ¼” from the stitching except leave about ½” of fabric over the opening. Trim the corners.

    Step 10:
Walnut based cat litter makes a good choice for filling a pin cushion as it will keep the pins and needles sharp and gives a good weight to the pincushion.

    Step 11:
Dried lavender filling makes a lovely sachet. Use a teaspoon to fill the pillow with either the lavender or the crushed walnut shells.

    Step 12:
You may choose to fill the pillow with poly fill if you are working with young children.
