Materials
  • Thread in desired colors
  • Two layers of fibrous water-soluble stabilizer for each hooping
  • Key fobs in the amount needed
  • Satin ribbon in colors and amounts needed for the number of keepsakes being done
  • Fabric marker for writing on ribbon

  • Designs used in this project

Final Product: What You Will Create

    Preface:
These keepsakes are very easy to do and go quite quickly. If you have a larger hoop, gang up two or three hearts to stitch of a single color to make the stitching go quickly. The satin ribbon can be written on or as an option, use the fonts on your machine to sew a wedding date, the couple initials, or a sentiment on the ribbon tails.

    Step 1:
Gather the materials and read through the instructions before beginning. Print out a paper template of each of the designs and color sequence. The "Enamel Skeleton Key Chain in Antique Bronze” were purchased from SewForLess. Order as many as you need for wedding keepsakes to present on the big day. Choose thread colors and ribbon colors to coordinate with the wedding colors.

    Step 2:
Hoop two layers of fibrous water-soluble stabilizer. Load the design on the machine and stitch the design in the chosen color.

    Step 3:
Continue hooping the stabilizer and stitching as many designs as you need in the thread colors you choose.

    Step 4:
After all the designs are stitched, trim away the excess stabilizer and follow the manufacturers’ directions for dissolving the remaining stabilizer. Set the hearts aside to dry thoroughly—preferably overnight.

    Step 5:
Assembly can be done many different ways. Here are just a few and I’m sure you’ll think of others. There is an extra ring included in the package. A single heart can be attached to this extra ring and then the ring placed on the key ring.

    Step 6:
Additionally, a length of ribbon can be tied to the ring and using a permanent fabric pen can be used to write the names or initials of the couple along with the wedding date.

    Step 7:
Another way to assemble is to slip a length of ribbon through the loop on the heart and tie the ribbon to the key ring adding a sentiment. Yet another way is to place a heart on the additional ring and then tie a length of ribbon to the key ring and write a different sentiment on the ribbon.

    Step 8:
Congratulations on creating beautiful key-psakes for wedding guests as a memory of the special day of celebration.
