Materials
  • Wine glasses with removeable insert—the number desired
  • Embroidery thread colors as specified in the design
  • 1 piece of white cotton fabric to fit hoop for each glass insert to be stitched
  • Poly mesh stabilizer
  • Optional: confetti or tinsel

  • Designs used in this project

Final Product: What You Will Create

    Preface:
These glasses are so much fun to do and are well received gifts. Size the design if necessary, and stitch. Trim the design by using the template provided in the glass and add optional confetti or tinsel before the final assembly of the glass. Search the internet for available glasses that allow embroidery inserts—and be aware that stock changes frequently with internet vendors.

    Step 1:
Gather the materials and read through the instructions before beginning. Print out a paper template of each of the designs and color sequence. Depending on the glasses you get, the design may need to be scaled down a little. For this particular set of glasses the design was scaled down 10% at the machine.

    Step 2:
Disassemble the glass. For this particular glass, the inside is unscrewed from the outside and it contains paper templates that need to be saved to use for shaping the fabric to insert into the glass.

    Step 3:
Check the paper insert against the template insert to determine if the design needs to be scaled down. Also, be sure the design will fit within the hoop and that when the fabric is hooped the straight of grain runs the same direction as the design. Press the fabric well with starch and then quarter fold it to find the center of the fabric. Hoop the fabric with a piece of stabilizer.

    Step 4:
Load the design on the machine and adjust the size and rotate the design if needed. Align the needle to the center of the fabric and stitch the design following the color sequence.

    Step 5:
For this project, second to last color was stitched in a pink instead of the color designated by the designer. Do not remove the fabric from the hoop until the next steps are completed. Fold the paper insert template in half and then quarter fold to find the center.

    Step 6:
Align the folds of the paper to the folds of the fabric and place a pin to hold it in place. Use a pencil to very lightly draw around the outside of the paper template.

    Step 7:
Remove the design from the hoop and generally cut it out, then cut on the pencil line around the design. There is no need to finish the edges of the fabric unless you would like to; the edges are covered after the design is inserted into the glass.

    Step 8:
Place the embroidery into the glass and seat it into the grooves. As an option, insert some fun confetti or tinsel into the glass and then screw the inner portion of the glass in place. Repeat the steps of pressing the fabric, doing the embroidery, trimming the fabric, and assembling the glass for as many glasses as you need.

    Step 9:
Congratulations on creating festive glasses for a bachelorette party or shower or just some girl time before the wedding.
