Description

Stitch up a cute Love Giraffes tee outfit for a little girl.

T-shirt and leggings in the size needed

Embroidery thread as stated in design sequence and to coordinate with outfit

½ yard (approx.) of lace trim for heart outline around design

Poly mesh stabilizer

Water soluble topper

8” of ¼” white ribbon for bow

1-piece of scrap paper to cut heart shape for trim

Final Product: What You Will Create

Preface:

This design is so cute and with the addition of some lace trim and a bow, makes a sweet Valentine’s T-shirt for a little girl.

Step 1:

Gather the materials and read through the instructions before beginning. Print out a paper template of the design and color sequence.

Step 2:

Press the t-shirt in half lengthwise and crease lightly to create a center front line. Cut out the design in the paper template and place as desired. Hoop the t-shirt with one layer of poly mesh stabilizer, centering the design.

Step 3:

Place the hoop on the machine, wrapping the excess fabric around the hoop. Sometimes the bulk of the extra fabric is too much to get under the needle and foot. An easy way to place the hoop on the machine is to remove the needle and foot, slide the hoop on, and then replace the needle and align it to the center of the paper template. After the alignment is done, place the foot on the machine and double check to make sure all the fabric is out from under the hoop area and there is no fabric around the pantograph (arm of the embroidery module) so the stitching can be done freely.

Step 4:

Remove the paper template and then place down a layer of water soluble stabilizer. Stitch the design. At this point, do not trim away the stabilizer; it will be used to stabilize the fabric while stitching the lace trim onto the t-shirt.

Step 5:

With a scrap piece of paper use the design template as a guide and draw a heart shape that will go around the giraffes. Place the heart template over the design and use a tailor’s chalk to draw around the heart. Use pins or a glue stick (it will wash out of the fabric) to form the lace trim along the outline of the heart, trimming off any little flowers at the start or end as needed to make a smooth looking design.

Step 6:

Use pins to smooth and hold the poly mesh stabilizer in place behind the heart shape. Use embroidery thread to match the shirt color and a blanket stitch to stitch the lace trim to the t-shirt. After the trim is stitched on the t-shirt, then trim the stabilizer.

Step 7:

Add a small ribbon bow at the top join of the heart shaped lace trim and give the t-shirt a final press. Your little girl will enjoy showing off your embroidery project!
