Materials
  • 2 pieces of white felt
  • 2 pieces of tearaway stabilizer to fit hoop
  • Embroidery thread as stated in design sequence
  • 1 piece of ¼” wide ribbon, approx. 9” long
  • White sewing thread
  • Small amount of fiber fill

  • Designs used in this project

    Preface:
Making ornaments is a great graft booth seller and also a gift when only something little is required. Ornaments made this way are easy to do with only a couple of pieces of felt, a beautiful design and a little fiberfil. The design is stitched, backed with the second

    Step 1:
Gather the materials and read through the instructions before beginning. Print out a paper template of the design with the color sequence.

    Step 2:
Hoop one piece of felt with the two layers of tearaway stabilizer. Load the “Christmas Boot” embroidery design on the machine.

    Step 3:
Stitch the design following the color sequence. Remove the completed design from the hoop and carefully remove the excess stabilizer.

    Step 4:
Place the second piece of felt behind the embroidery and pin the two layers of felt together. This is an optional step: generally draw around the outer most edges of the embroidery design about ½” away from the embroidery to get an idea of the stitching to be done that will hold the two layers together.

    Step 5:
Place the sewing thread on the machine. Sew around the outer edge of the design. Place the left edge of the presser foot along the outside of the embroidery design. Leave an opening at the top to stuff the ornament.

    Step 6:
Cut the excess felt away from the stitching line, leaving about 1/8”- ¼” or so. Lightly stuff the ornament, beginning at the toe and working upward.

    Step 7:
Stuff the ornament to where the top stitching line will be. Fold the ribbon in half and insert the cut edges inside the top of the ornament. Pin the top area closed and stitch around the top beginning and ending where the last stitching left off.

    Step 8:
Trim away the remaining felt outside the stitching area. Cut away each layer separately so the ribbon doesn’t accidentally get cut.

    Step 9:
