This embroidery project is very easy to do yet creates a nice memory for a graduate. Simply stitch the embroidery design on felt, cut it out, and use rubber cement to adhere the embroidery to the picture mat. For a nice touch, make the cap and tassel in the school colors of the graduate.
Step 1:
Gather the materials and read through the instructions before beginning. For a nice touch, use the school colors in place of the stated colors in the sequence for the cap and tassel.

Step 2:
Hoop the piece of felt with one layer of cutaway stabilizer. Stitch the design following the color sequence.

Step 3:
After the design stitches, remove the fabric from the hoop. Leave the stabilizer in place until after the next step.

Step 4:
Take the back off the frame and carefully lift out the picture mat. Lay the lower left corner of the mat over the design so there is approximately ½” to the left and bottom. Trace around the corner of the mat on the felt.

Step 7:
Lightly place rubber cement on the area of the mat where the embroidery will be placed. Align the felt and mat on the left side and bottom and press the embroidery into the glue. Let the glue dry thoroughly.

Step 8:
Place the mat back into the frame and place a picture if one is available. If this is for a gift, simply assemble the frame as it was purchased from the store; the picture may be added later once it becomes available.

Step 9:
A perfect, yet simple, gift for a 2016 graduate. Perhaps you’ll want to make several so the parents and grandparents will have a nice gift, too.
