Final Product: What You Will Create

    Preface:
It is so much fun to find designs to coordinate with purchased outfits. Adding trim and embroidery to a purchased outfit assures the size is correct and saves a lot of time versus cutting and sewing the entire garment. Even printed fabric can be embroidered. With a little coordination of colors, prints, thread and trim, a sweet little outfit can be created in an afternoon.

    Step 1:
Read through the instructions and gather the materials. Print out a paper template of the embroidery design. Coordinating the design, embroidery threads and trim is the fun part of designing the project.

    Step 2:
Press the top. Cut out the paper template of the design. Decide on the placement of the design and then pin the template to the garment.

    Step 3:
Hoop the garment with the stabilizer.

    Step 4:
Load the design “Heart Swirl” on the machine. Align the needle to the center of the paper template.

    Step 5:
Be sure none of the fabric is caught underneath the hoop area. With smaller garments it is very easy to accidentally catch fabric under the hoop.

    Step 6:
Remove the paper template and if needed, place down a piece of water soluble topper. Stitch the design following the color sequence.

    Step 7:
After the design is finished sewing, remove the garment from the hoop and cut away the excess stabilizer. Now it is time to decide on trim placement. There are many options and the amount of trim used will depend upon how the trim is placed on the garment. Shown are some options: along the length of the top opposite the design, along both lengths of the top almost like suspenders, diagonally across the top stopping before and after the embroidery.

    Step 8:
For this outfit, the trim will be sewn around the neckline, bottom of the sleeves, and bottom of the pant hem.

    Step 9:
Working from the inside of the sleeve, align the trim along the bottom edge of the sleeve and stitch in place using matching thread. At the end, turn under the cut edge and backstitch.

    Step 10:
Repeat adding trim for the sleeve edges.

    Step 11:
And for the bottom of the pant legs.

What an adorable outfit that is not only appropriate for Valentine’s Day, but for any time!
