Final Product: What You Will Create

    Preface:
Little sisters like their outfits to match yet be individual. For this project, matching outfits were found; the cute little tops were different colors, the leggings chosen matched and the same embroidery design was sewn on both tops. A red ribbon was used to add the jingle bell at the end of the Santa hat and tied with a bow for cute little matching outfits.

    Step 1:
Read through the instructions and gather the materials (Okie Dokie brand clothing used in the project was ordered from J.C. Penny). Print out a paper template of the design.

    Step 2:
Find the center of the top. Fold the top in half lengthwise, matching side seams and shoulders. Lightly press to crease.

    Step 3:
Cut out the design from the paper template and use it to determine the placement for the embroidery on the center front of the shirt.

    Step 4:
Hoop the center front of the shirt with one layer of tearaway stabilizer sandwiched between the fabric and one layer of poly mesh stabilizer.

    Step 5:
Load the “Santa and Rudolph” design on the machine. Center the needle over the center of the template. Hint: to make it easier to place the top on the machine, remove the needle and presser foot to load the hoop with the fabric bundled around it and then replace the needle and foot after the hoop is loaded.

    Step 6:
Remove the paper template. Double check to make sure there is no fabric under the hoop area to get caught in the stitching. Place a layer of water soluble stabilizer on top of the fabric.

    Step 7:
Stitch the design following the color sequence.

    Step 8:
Remove the fabric from the hoop. Carefully tear away the excess stabilizer in the middle and then cut away the excess poly mesh from the back.

    Step 9:
Next, remove the water soluble topper following the manufacturer’s directions.

    Step 10:
Now it is time to attach the little jingle bell. Thread a tapestry needle with the length of red satin ribbon.

    Step 11:
Place the tip of the needle at the top edge of the stitched bell, bring the needle through to the back side of the garment and back up again on the other side of the top of the bell.

    Step 12:
Slide the bell on the ribbon and tie a double knot to secure the bell to the fabric (leave it slightly loose so the bell will “jingle”). Then use the ends of the ribbon to tie a small bow.

    Step 13:
Use a dot of seam sealant in the middle of the bow and let dry. Trim the ribbon ends at an angle.

    Step 14:
Press the top well. Add additional trims or decorative stitching if time permits and if desired.

    Step 15:
Repeat the steps for the second top. These matching tops are sure to be a big hit with sisters who are waiting for a visit from Santa.
