This decorated menu board is fun to create. Adjust the fabrics to suit your kitchen and adjust the measurements to the chalk board you choose to decorate.
Step 1:
Gather the materials and read through the instructions before beginning. Print out a paper template of the design.

Step 2:
Cut out around the paper template. Place the template on the chalk board and measure the width and depth of the pocket. Add seam allowances to each side and double the length and add seam allowances to the length.

Step 3:
Measure around the board for the length to cut the vegetable fabric and add seam allowances. Cut out the fabric for the measurements. For the project, the green linen pocket and vegetable fabric were cut as listed in the materials section. Adjust the measurements for the board that you have. Fold the front area of the pocket to locate the center front of the pocket to align the design.

Step 4:
Hoop the front of the pocket with a layer of tearaway stabilizer, centering the design. Load the “Silverware” design on the machine.

Step 5:
Align the machine needle to the center of the template. Stitch the design following the color sequence.

Step 6:
After the design has finished stitching, remove the fabric from the hoop and remove the excess stabilizer. Fold the pocket, right sides together, and stitch the bottom edge with the seam allowance allotted (project used ¼”).

Step 7:
Press the seam open and then turn the pocket to the right side and press well.

Step 8:
Wrap one piece of the vegetable fabric around the board so the seam will be on the back side, toward the center. Flip the board with the fabric to the right side and position the pocket to the fabric with the lower edge of the pocket at the bottom of the board.

Step 9:
Baste the pocket to the vegetable fabric along the sides and sew the bottom edge to the fabric. Next, place the remaining vegetable fabric over the first piece, right sides together, and pin the two long edges together.

Step 10:
Sew the two long edges with the allotted seam allowance (1/4” used for the project). Turn the fabric right side out through one of the short ends.

Step 11:
Press the strip well.

Step 12:
With right sides together, pin the remaining cut edges together. Sew the allotted seam and press the seam open.

Step 13:
Turn the pocket to the right side. Read the directions for the chalk board to “season” it. Slip the strip over the board positioning the bottom of the pocket to the bottom of the board.

Step 14:
Place the easel legs on the board or use the hardware that comes with the board to hang it on a wall. Place the utensils (or coupons or recipes) in the pocket and use the chalk board to announce to the family what will be for dinner.
