Sometimes very stretchy fabric presents a challenge. This is a good project to learn a little trick to stitching an embroidery design on a fabric like swimsuit fabric. This is a good first project for learning to work with these kinds of fabrics.
Step 1:
Gather the materials and read through the instructions thoroughly. The stretchable book cover used for this project will note work for a notebook, but is intended for a text book or a composition book. Print off a paper template of the design.

Step 2:
Take the book cover out of the package. You will see it looks too small to fit a text book. It is made out of a stretchy swimsuit-like material. Place the cover over the book to test fit it.

Step 3:
Here’s a little trick to embroidering on a fabric that stretches. Cut a piece of fusible poly mesh stabilizer large enough for hooping. Place the stabilizer, fusible side UP, over the book cover. Temporarily tape the fusible into place.

Step 4:
Carefully place the cover back on the book. Make sure it is positioned like it will be after the embroidery is finished. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions and lightly fuse the book cover to the stabilizer; let the fabric cool. Remove the cover from the book and you’ll see that the stabilizer will keep the fabric in the shape to fit the book.

Step 5:
Determine the smallest hoop that will accommodate the design. Cut around the design on the paper template and center it on the front cover of the fabric.

Step 6:
Hoop the fabric. Load the “Science is FUN” design on the machine and align the needle to the center of the design.

Step 7:
Remove the paper template and stitch the design following the color sequence. After the design has finished stitching, remove the design from the hoop and carefully warm the stabilizer to release it from the back of the fabric. Trim the stabilizer from around the design.

Step 8:
Place the book cover on the book. Because the stabilizer was fused to the back of the fabric prior to stitching, the design won’t pucker. Give the book cover to your favorite student.
