Final Product: What You Will Create

    Preface:
Vintage doilies form the basis for this project. Choose doilies that will work with the designs. The designs may be stitched directly on the fabric if the doily has that option, otherwise stitch the designs on white cotton fabric, make the fabric into little pillows that are stuffed with dried lavender, and then attach them to the doily.

    Step 1:
Gather the materials and read through the instructions before beginning. Wash and dry the doilies if needed. Print paper templates of the designs. Press the white fabric. Determine which design will be used with which doily.

    Step 2:
For this doily, the embroidery was done directly on the fabric. Fold the doily in half and then center the paper template. Choose thread colors that will work with the doily.

    Step 3:
Press the doily fabric well with spray starch; also carefully press the crocheted edges. Hoop one layer of tearaway stabilizer. Use temporary embroidery spray adhesive to center and adhere the doily to the stabilizer.

    Step 4:
Load the “Aroma therapy” embroidery design in the machine. Align the needle to the center of the paper design template.

    Step 5:
Stitch the design following the color sequence. Carefully remove the fabric from the hoop and very carefully remove the excess stabilizer. Fold the doily in half and pin the edges.

    Step 6:
Stitch the edges of the doily together, removing the pins as you sew.

    Step 7:
Use a scrap of paper and form it into a funnel to insert into the opening of the doily and fill with the dried lavender; fill the sachet only about half way full. Pin the opening closed and stitch the opening closed.

    Step 8:
For the second sachet, hoop one layer of tearaway stabilizer with a piece of white cotton fabric. Load the “Lavender” design on the machine and stitch following the color sequence. Remove the excess stabilizer after the stitching is finished and press the fabric.

    Step 9:
Form a pillow with the fabric. Fold the fabric so the design is centered and creating a seam on what will be the back of the sachet. Bring the cut edges together, and stitch the seam closed leaving an opening for filling the sachet. Stitch the ends and trim the excess fabric.

    Step 10:
Fill the sachet with dried lavender and sew the opening closed. Center the sachet on the doily and stitch the sachet to the doily, pushing the lavender out of the way so it does not get caught in the stitching.

    Step 11:
For the third sachet, follow the same steps of hooping the fabric with stabilizer, stitching the design following the color sequence, forming a sachet, filling it with lavender and sewing the opening closed. Center the sachet on the chosen doily.

    Step 12:
For this sachet, bring the edges of the vintage doily to the sachet, overlapping the edges. Hand-stitch the doily edges to the sachet.

    Step 13:
Place the lavender sachets on a pillow, in the corner of a room, in a drawer, or in a closet to infuse the area with the beautiful aroma of lavender scent.
