It’s fun to embroidery designs on purchased items to create simple, yet creative and useful items to make “Breakfast Time” more enjoyable.
Step 1:
Gather the materials and read through the instructions before beginning. Choose thread colors to make the donut and sprinkles the colors you choose, or follow the thread as listed by the designer.

Step 2:
Load the “Sprinkle Donut” design in the software. Save the design as a new file and name it “napkin”. If the design is grouped, ungroup it. Select all but the last three colors of the design and delete them.

Step 3:
This will leave only the “sprinkles” to be sewn on the napkin. Save the file and then export the file in the format needed by the machine for stitching. Print paper templates of both the “napkin” design and the “Sprinkle Donut” design. Note: if you do not have software, this can be done at the machine by using the “Sprinkle Donut” design, advancing through the first colors, and sewing only the last three colors which are the sprinkles.

Step 4:
Loosely cut around the paper template of the “Sprinkle Donut” design. Decide where you would like it stitched on the placemat and pin the paper template in place. On the back side of the placemat, tear and place strips of double sided embroidery tape to secure the placemat to the stabilizer in the hoop. Be sure to keep the tape well out of the way of where the “Sprinkle Donut” design will be stitched. Remove the protective paper from the double sided embroidery tape.

Step 5:
Hoop a piece of tearaway stabilizer. Secure the placemat to the stabilizer with the embroidery tape. This placemat has ridges that would show under the design. To help alleviate this, choose a color of Simply Stable cover-up to be placed down before stitching. This will help keep the stitching up off the placemat.

Step 6:
Remove the paper template and lay the piece of Simply Stable over the area to be embroidered. Load the “Sprinkle Donut” design in the machine and stitch following the color sequence.

Step 7:
After the design finishes stitching, remove the hoop from the machine and tear away the excess Simply Stable cover-up. The stitching perforates the product so it tears away cleanly. Flip the placemat over and remove the excess tearaway stabilizer.

Step 8:
Add additional “Sprinkle Donuts” if you’d like. Set the placemat aside.

Step 9:
To create the napkin, press the napkin using spray starch. Generally cut around the paper template of the “napkin” design. Place the template on the napkin as you would like it stitched. For the project, the design will be stitched near the corner as shown. Pin the paper template in place.
