Final Product: What You Will Create

    Preface:
A purchased pillow cover forms the basis for this project. The pillow stitching is removed so the pillow cover can be opened to lay flat. Musical notes ribbon trim (purchased at Hobby Lobby) was fused 2” apart and then the embroidery design was stitched. The pillow seams were re-sewn, the pillow inserted, and a stunning pillow was created to enjoy or give as a gift.

    Step 1:
Gather the supplies needed and read through the instructions. Print the embroidery design. For this project, the design was enlarged 25% at the machine before stitching - this is an optional step. Be sure any resizing is checked to be sure it will fit within the hoop area and test-stitched for accuracy before stitching on the final project.

    Step 2:
Turn the pillow cover inside out and remove the stitching on three sides. On this particular cover, there is a zipper opening at the bottom; this was left intact. Press the fabric well.

    Step 3:
Work on the right side of the cover that will be the pillow front. For the project, a quilting ruler was laid at the 2” mark along the zipper. A layer of fusible web was placed against the ruler and the length of ribbon placed over the fusible web.

    Step 4:
Carefully press the ribbon in place. Move the iron up and down to lightly fuse the ribbon to the pillow top then remove the ruler and fuse the ribbon in place securely. Lay the 2” mark along the top of the ribbon that was just fused.

    Step 5:
Repeat the process of placing fusible web and ribbon and fusing in place. Repeat until all the rows of ribbon are fused in place.

    Step 6:
At the sewing machine, each row of ribbon in place along both edges. Using the paper template of the embroidery design, determine the desired placement of the design over the rows of ribbon; pin the paper template in place.

    Step 7:
Hoop the fabric with two layers of tearaway stabilizer. Align the needle to the center of the design template. At this point the design was enlarged 25% (this is an optional step. Be sure to check and make sure the design will fit within the limits of the hoop.)
