Homemade Burp Cloths Embroidery Project

Description

These cute burp cloths are made of flannel and are perfect for a baby shower or a 'welcome to the world' gift. I will also be showing you how to add lettering to a design using the embroidery software called BuzzWord.

1 piece of pre-washed printed flannel 14” wide by 21” long

1 piece of pre-washed white flannel 14” wide by 21” long

1 piece of ribbon 14” long by 5/8” wide

White sewing thread

3 Embroidery thread colors and bobbin thread

5” x 7” or 180mm x 130mm hoop

Final Product: What You Will Create

Step 1:

Open up BuzzWord and then open up the design "Burp Me Please" from Concord Collections

in your software.

Step 2:

Click on Edit/Select All, then click on Buzztools/Rotate. Key in 90 in the degree box.

Step 3:

Click on View/Hoop properties and select the 5" x 7" hoop.

Step 4:

Click on the 'A' icon on the left side of the screen. Left mouse click anywhere inside the hoop.

Step 5:

Select Standard font and then Kids from the drop down box. Key in the word Grandma in the text box and then click on Apply.

Step 6:

Move the word Grandma on top of the design. Click on Buzztools/Center/Both. Click on File/Save. Save the design in a folder on your computer or the device that you put into your embroidery machine.

Step 7:

Gather your sewing and embroidery materials.

Step 8:

Cut both pieces of flannel 14" x 21".

Step 9:

To calculate the center of the design on your fabric, divide the height of the design in half and then add 3” (for the blank area at the bottom of the burp cloth). My design is approximately 4 ½” in height so I will make a mark 5 ¼” from the bottom and 7” from the right side. This will be the center of my design.

Step 10:

Hoop the stabilizer and fabric placing the mark you made in the previous step in the middle of your hoop.

Step 11:

Stitch out the design that you created from the BuzzWord software

Step 12:

Take the fabric out of the hoop and pull off the stabilizer on the back.

Step 13:

Measure 3” down from the top of the burp cloth and pin the ribbon straight across.

Step 14:

Stitch the ribbon down on both long sides to the burp cloth.

Step 15:

With right sides together, sew a ½” seam along all edges, leaving a 3” opening to turn right side out.

Step 16:

Clip corners, turn right side out and press.

Step 17:

Top stitch 1/4" around the entire burp cloth and add a an optional decorative stitch along the long sides. You are done!
