Final Product: What You Will Create

    Preface:
This is a fun project that begins with a purchased pattern. The time given is to do one ball and one bowling pin. Do several pins and balls and create a fun game for family and friends.

    Step 1:
Gather the materials and read through the instructions before beginning. Print out a paper template of the design and color sequence. Choose embroidery thread colors that coordinate with the fabrics chosen.

    Step 2:
Optional: use embroidery editing software to select, group, and change the stripes on the pins to a red color.

    Step 3:
Be sure the color is re-ordered so it sews in the correct sequence.

    Step 4:
Download and read through all the instructions for the pattern you choose. Print the needed pattern pieces. Measure and find the largest part of the pin pattern piece for centering the embroidery design; draw in the center point crosshairs for centering the embroidery design. Press all the fabrics with starch or sizing to make them crisp. A white fabric was chosen for the pin front for embroidery.

    Step 5:
Hoop the fabric with the chosen stabilizer. Center the pin pattern piece on the hooped fabric and trace around the pattern with pencil; mark in the center crosshair drawn in the previous step. Note: if embroidering several pins, fit as many pin patterns in the hoop as possible.

    Step 6:
Load the design on the machine and center the needle over the center crosshairs. Stitch the design following the color sequence. Cut out the pin along the pencil line.

    Step 7:
Cut out the remaining pattern pieces needed for the pin and ball. Read and follow the pattern instructions for assembly.

    Step 8:
To help the pin stand up, the instructions will contain information on adding a weight and cardboard base before stuffing. The last step will be to hand stitch the opening closed.

After the first pin and ball are completed, it will be easy to complete more using an assembly line method.

    Step 11:
It will be fun to have a beer with friends and play “Softie Bowling”. Use a child’s embroidery design and create sets for children to play with, too!
