Final Product: What You Will Create

    Preface:
A great way to use your fabric remnants that can be cut into a 5 ½” x 6 ½” piece. Solid cotton heavy weight fabric is recommended for the embroidery of the designs and printed cotton fabric for the back to give the bag a little “character”. Stitch up the sides and fill the bags with uncooked rice and you’re done. These natural heating bags make great gifts for an all-natural way to relieve muscle tension to “Relax and Unwind”.

    Step 1:
Gather all supplies and review instructions before beginning. Print out template(s) of design. Time stated is for completion of 1 bag.

    Step 2:
Cut your fabric(s) into 5 ½’ x 6 ½” pieces. You will need two for each bag. If you are making a set you will need a total of 6 cut pieces.

    Step 3:
Cut and hoop a piece of tear away stabilizer. Mark top and side axis points directly onto your stabilizer. Lightly spray temporary adhesive spray. Center your cut piece of fabric onto your stabilizer. Fingertip press and smooth out to adhere. (  Make a fabric folded cross hair by folding your fabric in quarters to center onto stabilizer)

    CONSTRUCTION OF BAG
With right sides together. Place your back fabric atop your embroidered cut piece. Pin and stitch using ¼” seam allowance all sides. Leaving an opening at the bottom for filling of the rice.

    Step 7:
Trim corners. Turn bag right side out through opening. Iron press. Top stitch all around bag using 1/8” seam allowance but do not stitch over opening. Begin your stitch at one side of the opening and end at the other side before the opening.

    Step 8:
    FILLING THE BAG
Use 1 cup of uncooked rice per bag. Fill though opening. Pin opening close. About an inch or so down from top edge pin across bag. (this will help so that the rice doesn’t flow into your sewing area when stitching the opening closed). Top stitch to close the opening.

    Step 9:
Repeat steps 3 through 8 for the other two embroidery designs to make a set. Viola! You are done! Heat in the microwave for about two minutes . Make sure you check the temperature before placing it on those achy muscles for relief! Enjoy!
