Final Product: What You Will Create

This fun 3D bunny pennant will make a great decoration for a springtime display or Easter party. You can find instructions for the 3D pillow on this website, too, under my name when you do a search by “author.”

    Step 1:
Gather the materials and read through the instructions before beginning. Print out a paper template of the design and color sequence.

    Step 2:
Remove as many pennant pieces as you need from the strung pennant. You will add them back on later, after they are embroidered.

    Step 3:
Find the center of the burlap pennant pieces and mark with an erasable marker. Measure and mark where you want the bottom of your design to go on each piece.

    Step 4:
Hoop the tear away stabilizer and spray it with the temporary embroidery adhesive spray. Hoop the pennant pieces as shown so that you can get more pieces done in one hooping.

    Step 5:
Place the hooped pennant pieces onto your machine and, if necessary, cover with water soluble stabilizer to keep stitches from sinking into the burlap.

Another reminder: Rotate our designs as needed to fit on your pennant pieces.

    Step 6:
Remove the final stitched pennant pieces from the machine and carefully remove water soluble stabilizer (if used) and carefully remove the tear away stabilizer from the back of each pennant piece.

    Step 7:
Repeat steps 3 -5 for the bunny pieces. No water soluble stabilizer is necessary as the next steps are applique.

Stitch the placement line for the bunny onto the first pennant piece.
Place a piece of the white flannel over the placement line and stitch the next step.
I wanted to hold the flannel in place, so rather than put my fingers into the sewing area, I used a wooden chop stick for safety

    Step 8:
Carefully remove the hooped project from the machine and trim closely around the tack down stitch, being careful not to cut into the flannel and the stitching.
Place it carefully back onto your machine and let the design finish stitching out, changing thread colors as prompted.

    Step 9:
Repeat the process for as many bunny pennant pieces as you have chosen, being careful to rotate your design to fit on each piece. Glue the tails onto each bunny and let the glue dry completely before finishing.

    Step 10:
When all your pennant pieces are stitched, place them back on the string for hanging.
You can space them as you like; my project has them close together due to space restrictions for photographing.

    Step 11:
You are done with this fun, easy pennant! If you want to make the 3D pillow, just look for it on this website under my name as author. Happy Spring!
