Final Product: What You Will Create

    Step 1:
Gather the materials and read through the instructions before beginning.

    Step 2:
If you have embroidery software, open the software and choose your hoop size. I have selected the 200mm square hoop. Open all 3 feather designs into one file so you can create the embroidery file. I have enlarged each design to 110%. Position the “blue fancy feather” in the middle and rotate it around so it is upright. Next position the “turquoise fancy feather” on the right and rotate it until upright, then position the “purple fancy feather” on the left then flip it horizontally so it is the mirror image then rotate it until it is upright. Ensure the feathers are spaced evenly and ensure the overall width of your design is no more than 6 ¼” wide and 6” high. Then save that file and upload to your machine. NOTE: if you don’t have software to do this, you can adjust on your machine as needed

    Step 3:
I find the easiest way to find the centre of the cotton fabric is to fold the fabric in half width wise and press down on the fold line to create a crease mark. Do the same lengthwise with the fabric and you will have your centre point. Lay your hoop over the fabric and stabilizer, ensuring the hoop is centered on the fabric then hoop the fabric and stabilizer

    Step 4:
Stitch out the 3 color design. Remove hoop from the machine and tear away the stabilizer. Press if needed

    Step 5:
This part can be tricky to exactly centre the design in the wooden hoop so I found just using your eye is the best. So lay the embroidered panel over the inner hoop piece and position as close to centered as you can.

    Step 6:
Then lay the outer hoop over the fabric and inner hoop and check the positioning. Move the embroidered panel if needed.

    Step 7:
Then press the outer hoop down over the fabric and inner hoop and tighten the screw to hold the design in place

    Step 8:
Turn the design over and you now want to trim off the corners of the fabric to make it a circular shape. Ensure you leave enough fabric around the edges of the hoop

    Step 9:
Turn the excess fabric to the inside of the hoop then run a loose running stitch all the way around the edge of the fabric then pull the thread to tighten and draw in the fabric

    Step 10:
Place the felt circle over the back of the design then hand stitch around the edge of the felt, securing it to the fabric. This now covers the back of the design. I have also hand stitched a small loop of ribbon to the felt at the top which can assist if you wanted to hang this design.

    Step 11:
Viola! Your feather wall art is now complete
