  • Final Product: What You Will Create

    Preface:
I am seeing on my facebook feed new Mom's are posting pictures of their baby every month using a paper template how old they are. I thought it would be nice to have something cute, useful and they could have as a keepsake. I created two sets of designs one with a "knockdown" stitch for material like terrycloth and one without. This is a quick project by using a premade bib, but you can certainly make your own bib.

    Step 1:
You can use whatever size hoop to properly fit the size of the design. 5x5 would adequately fit the design, I used a 10 x 10 because it is my new favorite magnetic hoop. Hoop tearaway stabilizer and spray generously with spray adhesive.

    Step 2:
Fold the bib in half and finger press.

    Step 3:
Open the bib and mark the center where you want your design.

    Step 4:
Print out the design template you are using and with your mark on the bib and matching the cross hairs on your template align your design where you would like it to sew on the bib.

    Step 5:
I used some masking tape to further fasten it down, but you can pin, use a basting stitch or whatever your favorite method is when you float your design to ensure there is no movement of the bib.

    Step 6:
Attach your hoop to your machine and using the cross hair on the template center your needle and begin sewing. The design set that contains the “knockdown” I did not use a WSS topping, but you can if that is the preference. The terry cloth is not that thick on these bibs so was not necessary. Sew out design.

    Step 7:
If you get a solid color like these I wanted to add something around the border to give some additional color. I used my variegated thread and a built in decorative stitch in my sewing machine to put a edge around the bib. You could also use rick rack or other decorative trim to add to the bib that would be washable.

    Meet The Author: Jayne Monsipapa
Jayne Monsipapa has been digitizing for 24 years. It all started after walking into a sewing store in 1993 to buy a couple spools of thread and there was a sewing machine hooked up to a computer! Embroidering the designs were fun at first, but it did not take much to get hooked on digitizing. From 1993 until 1999 she worked on her digitizing skills and found her designs sewed out very good. With her husband’s encouragement Kinship Kreations LLC began in 1999 selling designs online. In those early years she took classes with both Walt Floriani and Lee Caroselli (Balboa Embroidery) who are both very talented and successful digitizers. Jayne joined the EmbroideryDesigns team in 2008.
