  • Final Product: What You Will Create

    Preface:
The most challenging part of this project was finding the white tassel. I found the Tassel Elegance® tassel on Amazon. Pre-wash and press the linen with spray starch to prevent shrinkage in future washing. Designs WHIC02, WHIC05 and WHIC06 were used in this project, but you could use any of the WHICH designs shown on the right as associated with this project.

    Step 1:

Cut two rectangles of linen 8.5” x 32” long; press the front panel in half lengthwise to give you a center line down the length of the panel; measure down 5 ½” from the top and draw a line across the width of the panel; measure down 8” from the first line and draw a horizontal line across the width of the panel; measure down 8” from the second line and draw the final line across the width of the panel.

    Step 2:
Place the point of the square quilting template at the bottom of the bell pull, both top and bottom layers are still aligned with each other; cut across the two 45 degree angles to get a perfect point at the bottom.

    Step 3:
The end of your bell pull will now look like this.

    Step 4:

Cut a length of batting 32”x 12”; spray adhesive on the top panel of fabric and center onto the batting.

    Step 5:
You can place a 32” length of poly mesh behind the full length of the Battilizer® or place individual hoop sized pieces of poly mesh stabilizer as you hoop for each design; hoop stabilizer, the batting and the top layer in the embroidery hoop for the top design aligning the horizontal pen markings and the vertical center crease; place the hoop in the machine and align the center point.

    Step 6:
    Stitch the first design.

    Step 7:
Move the hoop down to the second horizontal line and stitch the middle design aligning the start point as in Step 5.

    Step 8:
Move the hoop down to the bottom placement line and stitch the third design after aligning the start point as in Step 5.

    Step 9:
Trim the stabilizer around each individual design.

    Step 10:
Place the back panel over the embroidered panel, right sides together and pin in place; plan a place about 5” long to leave unstitched to be able to turn the bell pull right side out.

    Step 11:
Stitch around the bell pull with a ½” seam leaving 5” unstitched on one side for turning.

    Step 12:
Trim seam allowance all around to ¼”; trim corners.

    Step 13:
Turn right side out, press turning under the open seam allowance, pin and hand stitch the opening closed.

    Step 14:
Cut a strip of material the width of the bell pull and 3.5” wide and make a quilt hanging sleeve. There are many instructions on youtube for making a hanging sleeve; hand sew the hanging sleeve ½” down from the top; slip the rod from the quilt hanger through the hanging sleeve.

    Step 15:
Hand stitch the center of the hanging cord on the tassel to the back of the bell pull center bottom.
